The mayor of Perris posted a video on social media urging his residents to stay indoors as immigration operations continue in the Southern California region.
In a video titled "PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT," Mayor Michael Vargas said after reports of ongoing operations by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), he is urging residents to avoid going out unless necessary.
"Stay at home and do not open the door to strangers," Vargas said. "This message is for awareness and safety."
Vargas continued to say the city is committed to protecting the well-being of all residents and encouraged them to monitor "official city communications."
In a statement responding to the mayor's message, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said people who are not in the country illegally and are not breaking other laws have nothing to fear.
"Elected officials choosing to fearmonger by distorting reality are doing a great disservice to our country and are responsible for the nearly 700% increase in assaults on ICE officers," the statement said.
The mayor's message comes weeks after federal agents have ramped up immigration operations across Southern California as part of President Trump's massive crackdown on illegal immigration.

The post on the City of Perris Facebook page titled PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT states that the city has received reports of ongoing “ICE operations” in the area.
“We urge all residents to remain calm, stay indoors if possible, and know your rights. Do not go out unless necessary. Stay at home and do not open the door to strangers,” Perris Mayor Michael Vargas says in the video.
Roughly 78% of Perris’s population identifies as Hispanic or Latino, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The mayor’s message comes as officers from the Department of Homeland Security conduct daily enforcement operations targeting individuals, businesses, and gathering places frequented by day laborers.
The mayor’s message did not mention any specific ICE operations or arrests in the area.
On Tuesday, Bishop Alberto Rojas relieved some Catholics in the San Bernardino Diocese of the obligation to attend Mass and encouraged them to engage in personal prayer in light of the raids.
“All members of the faithful in the Diocese of San Bernardino who, due to genuine fear of immigration enforcement actions, are unable to attend Sunday Mass or Masses on holy days of obligation are dispensed from this obligation, as provided for in Canon 1247, until such time as this decree is revoked or amended,” reads Rojas’ message that was posted on X.

Thanks to this hands-on approach, in 2024 Same Same But Different diverted 1,120 pounds of cardboard, 828 pounds of aluminum, 283 pounds of plastic and 773 pounds of glass from the landfill, that’s one massive footprint the community didn’t leave on the planet.

SSBD offers a range of merchandise, including beach kimonos, lineup hoodies, logo tees, andaccessories like tie-dye bucket hats and sherpa blankets. These items are available forpurchase on site.
Additionally, the festival has previously partnered with media outlets for ticket giveaways,offering fans the chance to win VIP passes and camping accommodations.
